The working drawing behind both Cellist prints, worked out first in loose, energetic line — the same tilt of the head, the same close attention to the score, before color and block gave the figure its final weight. Left rough and unresolved, it shows the gesture Stan kept returning to as he moved between mediums.

A cellist leans into the music stand, eyes on the score, the scroll of the instrument rising dark beside his face. Deep blue, red, and green interlock in dense, patterned blocks, giving the whole scene the woven feel of sound itself — concentration held inside color.

A second take on the same subject, this version in etching rather than linocut — warmer and more painterly, the cello glowing amber and yellow against a black coat and cool blue ground. A close, cropped view of hands at work — fingers pressed to the neck of a mandolin, the other hand poised mid-strum. Rendered in dense black-and-white texture, the busy patterning around the figure turns the whole print into pure rhythm, as if it's vibrating with the instrument itself.

The same hands return in bolder color — deep blue, black, and red, the player's face emerging from shadow above the instrument's neck. Where the wood engraving stayed close and graphic, this version opens up, giving the gesture room to breathe against a warm orange ground.

A third pass at the same subject, now in green and burnt orange, the player's face tilted down in concentration as the hands work the strings. Softer and more atmospheric than the other two, this version trades sharp contrast for warmth — the same gesture, seen in different light.

Very Limited Edition — a seated figure seen from behind and in profile, flute raised in both hands, dark curls falling loose over a rose-pink garment. The wash of blue behind her, lighter near the horizon, gives the whole scene an open-air, contemplative quiet, the kind of stillness that holds right before a note begins.

One in a series on modern dance, "Dancer" catches a figure mid-movement — arms flung wide, legs planted, head tilted back as a dark shape streams behind her like hair caught in motion. Stark white against blocks of muted color, the line follows the energy of the body more than its anatomy.

A violinist bends into the instrument mid-phrase, bow arm raised, chin pressed to the strings. Layered lines in green, magenta, and black build the figure the way sound builds a chord — overlapping, vibrating, never quite still. The bright blue ground holds the motion in place without pinning it down.
